Properties of the Week: Single or Condo?

March 17, 2011

This was a tough call… saw so many great places on caravan today, that I couldn’t choose just one! But I did manage to narrow it down to two, and they are an interesting contrast, so thought it would be fun to highlight the difference:

Property #1 appears to be a single family home, but is part of a condo association — this type of home is known as a “detached condo.”

200 Appleton Street, Cambridge — 4BR, 2.5 ba, 1784 SF, listed at $875,000

Property #2 seems like it would be a condo, as it’s attached to its neighbor in a little complex of townhomes. However, it is deeded as a single family home — no association, no condo fee. We call this type of home an “attached single.”

2 Walden Mews, Cambridge — 4BR,  3.5 ba, 2068 SF, listed at $819,000
